Well, I still play on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Nothing that’s happened in the last 5 years of Minecraft “development” has mattered to me.

Shame about how Mojang was bankrupted tho

The noteworthy part is it’s much deeper. I just hit -1000 in my mine. I have a second base at -500 with trees, farms, and chickens. It’s a giant cave, like so tall you can’t see the ceiling or across it.

Last two paragraphs are the only thing of value in that whole article:

If you’re somewhat cynical of this move, I don’t blame you. This certainly looks like Microsoft’s targeted someone who’s more concerned about user retention, advertising, and monetization than community moderation and access.

Minecraft is a juggernaut that’s resisted many of the more concerning practices you can find in something like Roblox. There’s no explicit suggestion Microsoft wants to push that direction, but this changeover leaves the possibility open. We’ll see what the future holds

Its the most purchased game in the world, do you think there is after the full release that isnt backed up a couple hundred times?

But if you want, i would recommend 1.7.9, 1.12.2, 1.16.5, and 1.19.4 since those are the most modded versions of minecraft as far as i know (1.7 and 1.12 being mostly tech modpacks)

Do you know if it’s possible to get the pre-release versions of the game? I’d be curious to explore the versions I started with to remember how little it has. I don’t remember what version I started with, but it was definitely in the alpha. IIRC it might have been just after minecarts were added. I’m sure we had almost nothing back in those days.

I know you couldn’t repair things back then, and I made the mod to add repairs, and the vanilla game eventually added it basically to the exact recipes. I still wish Curse was used for games because I have Curse Premium for life from that, but I’ve had no reason to use that site since then.

Some versions of pre 1.0 minecraft are available on the official (java) launcher (if you do not have an account something like prism cracked would work too)

I know more old versions exist on the internet and have seen minecraft.wiki lists some with download links, but i have never tried to use such an old version

1.21.1, and 26.2 if you want further content. Java, BTW. No sane person uses Bedrock.

          I completely forgot about 1.21.1

Regarding 26.2, i would just wait for the last not bad version since if they do make java edition bad (which i doubt would happen), they wouldnt do everything suddendly

Tbh not sure i agree. Started a lore-playing server with friends in 2012. It grew to over 200 unique players and rich DnD style growing history. Minecraft entered its dark period after the purchase but in the last few years has given players plenty of steady updates that are bringing us back and keeping our lore playing server thriving.

Ive seen more innovations in Minecraft in 5 years than I’ve seen in pokemon in 20, to put it into perspective. Love both series.

This is the lowest of bars. Literally anything you look at has more innovation than Pokemon. They’re making nearly the same game that they made in the 90s. The graphics are slightly better (arguably, because 3D doesn’t mean better, nor does realism), but that’s almost it.

Now that sounds like a fun server! Really enjoyed an old RP server back in the days. RIP Lords of Minecraft, forever missed.

Tbh growing up on Minecraft has kinda tainted the entire MMO genre for me. So many servers had evolving stories, past events told through both word of mouth and the “official” records. You could join and make a real impact on the world. Tried an MMO for the first time with a friend and was like “couldn’t this have been a single player game with how little multiplayer matters?”

I do think there’s a possibility of power going to people’s heads, allowing people to run in idea-reinforcing circles, and eliminating doubt of competing worldviews.

I do recall that he talked about feeling incredibly alienated after the sale, because people only wanted to talk to him, for his money. He couldn’t make genuine connections. That kind of thing really fucks with you, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it exacerbated existing problems.

But also, like… Look at the Villagers. They deal in commerce, have but noses, and are protected by golems. He was always a shithead. Being a rich shithead only made him worse

Wish l could get into it like minecraft but I just run out of stuff that I feel like doing, the smithing is pretty fun too and the world is definitely intriguing. Maybe when it’s more finished I’ll stay longer but it’s got a way to go to catch up with the mods and stuff that minceraft has.

It’s realistic. Some day, when you feel like it, try setting to hard mode and switch on collapsing caves and blocks falling sideways, one life only. It’s hilarious how often and quickly you die if you don’t focus. There’s a mod for blood trails, that helps for hunting. I am currently in the middle of a hard winter, it’s super tough! But have some nice shader settings, so looks cool while suffering haha

Angelidou-Smith is no stranger to positions like this, but more in social media than video games. From 2014 to 2022, she was with Meta, looking after various aspects of Facebook, firstly in app monetization, and then in the realm of Facebook Groups, Dating and the like. Then, after stints in other industries, she took on the job of chief product officer at Reddit in November of last year. And now she’s in charge of Minecraft.
