I tried playing the game for a couple of hours, but I gave up. Should I give it another chance by playing it more to see if the game reveals itself?
It’s a very slow burn experience. Expect 100+ hours to get through, especially with the DLC. It’s not for everyone certainly, but there’s a lot of great stuff in it. Two hours in you’ve seen very little of the game, or it’s story - which I think is it’s strongest part.
If you’re having a hard time getting into it, I’d skip all the side quests until you get to Novigrad. I started and dropped it a few times because I got bored of wandering around the swamp, but to me the game comes alive in Novigrad
Thanks for the advice. I was indeed doing the side quests really early in the game. Going now to concentrate on the main quests until I get to Novigrad.

It’s not great that it was broken trash at release, but it’s better to become a great game than to stay a broken pile of trash.
Even the ps4/xb1 version got pretty good from what I’ve heard
At its core, its still an unfinished product, because many of the features that were advertised are not there, there are many sections of the map that you can go to, where different things were planned, but are now just empty rooms, etc. They released it knowing very well about its state, at least, the very least the game systems like skills have now been improved to be somewhat finished.
To the Witcher fans out there, if I haven’t played the game, should I play it now or wait for the new expansion?
I just have a steamdeck, so I’m not too concerned about the new graphics as I’m sure I can’t run it well anyway.
Start now it’s a big game and one of the DLCs is as big as the main game itself. I don’t think you’ll be missing anything by starting without the new DLC being available. I’m gonna play it and I haven’t played the Witcher 3 in years. I may even replay the whole game again just to prepare.
I looked though the announcement. Is the remaster coming out next year with the new expansion? I’ll probably just wait as I already have the game, but I’d like to just start fresh or I’ll have rpg ambesia by the time the remaster cones out.

I have played it before (twice, never completing it) and I thought about giving it another try but I am going to wait since there are a lot of changes. Thinking on the skill tree as it is going to get revamped.
Cool, I will wait too I was not aware of that. I did play for a bit, but I never got far into it and I would like to really give this game a good run.
I personally would wait for the improved controls in the remaster, but it’s free so there’s no reason not to try and see if it feels good or not.
If you start playing now you’ll have lots of time to play the existing base plus expansions. Blood and Wine took about as long as the base game for me.
It’s a long game. Very good story and characters, but long.
Also, don’t be an idiot like me: I got the bad ending by choosing funny options not knowing it affected specific outcomes and later events. No spoilers, but you don’t want that. I suggest playing in character (however you feel your Geralt should be) and sticking with it.

Probably to playtest a new iteration of their engine to make it ready for Witcher 4. While W3 is old, it’s updated version would require PS5/Xbox Series X/S.

Which is a shame. I feel like REDengine was getting so close to being actually good. But I get it, though. Easier onboarding of staff etc with UE. More resources out there. More documentation. Less work on the engine and more on the game itself. I understand the reasoning, I just don’t like the UE near-monopoly.
Doesn’t Witcher 4 use unreal? They supposedly gave up on red engine because it caused too many headaches with cyberpunk.
News say you are right. Still, redoing a complete game on a new engine may be an easy way to let devs and artists adapt to it.
Noice! I tried to give this a fair shake but it was at a tumultuous time in my life, and I just lost interest after a few hours not having time to dump into it. So I never got the dlcs. Now I’m getting all this shit for free? I will continue to stan cd projekt red for some time to come. I even had a good, fairly glitchless, time with cyber punk day one on a rebuilt $30 ps4 slim.

Looks like I’ll have to give The Witcher another go. I got most of the way through it years ago and picked it up again recently. The controls, especially in combat, are too rough. Hopefully that’s one of the things improved!
