Welp there goes any interest I had in this game
Ick; definitely do not want this (vtubers are super uncanny valley to me and unnerving)
It can be done right. Like a dragon infinite wealth has a vtuber character as part of its story line, they use the account to spread lies about the main character and part of the story is trying to figure out who controls the channel.
But yeah, I don’t see most games doing it that way lol
To me, it’s about the voice and avatar on screen and not the content. They never fully match (I am super sensitive to sync between audio and video) which just puts it into super creepy and inhuman on top of the weird (to me, anyway,) animated avatar (and I don’t just mean Japanese-anime-style either; I’ve seen robots, more photo-realistic, etc.).
interestingly it’s mostly the big corporation-backed models that have bad sync. independent streamers seem to care more about that and there is a clear difference in quality.
This works since it feels grounded enough and really does help move the story forward - the anonymity in particular really drives this plot point. It’s also not a real cameo or anything of the sort.
DS2’s cameo is fine, it’s a game full of bizarre cameos and weird shit as-is, I had no idea at first that they were a real person and not just made for the game lmao. It fits in that universe, especially with the uncanny animations.
But what else can you really do aside from those two options? It’ll be incredibly difficult for this to not feel like a forced trend if it keeps happening.
I have zero interest in this. :old man yells at cloud:
Their high falsetto voices are like salty broken glass in my eyes. I’ve never been able to watch more than 10 seconds of a “vtuber”.
Plenty of them talk using their normal speaking voice.
At the start a lot of them put on a voice to fit the “charachter” they were supposed to be. But that shit is exhausting for the streamer, so most of them have dropped it. Some did “voice reveals” but mostly it just quickly became the norm for them to have two voices. The one they do for the character, and their normal voice, which they use 90% of the time so they don’t destroy their vocal cords.
There certainly was a trend early on when vtubers were just high pitched “cutsey” girls but thankfully it was properly broken a while ago. It’s such a shame that it tainted the concept for a lot of people, when there’s plenty of men and women now who are just regular content creators that don’t want to show their face.
I can’t help but imagine them all as actually like the WoW guy from south park.
I’ll be honest, when I got my ass blown up by a trip mine 1 minute from completing a S tier pizza delivery, stumbled into the bunker shamefully with a half ruined pie, and a vtuber popped up to take delivery and told me she was the very same person who put the trip mines by the door, this old man did crack a smile.

Why? Does this add anything?
Marketing and sales
To each their own I guess, but this is a good way to ensure I never buy one of their games.
There are lots of games you’ll never buy. Because not everything is for you. And that’s a good thing.
