At the start a lot of them put on a voice to fit the “charachter” they were supposed to be. But that shit is exhausting for the streamer, so most of them have dropped it. Some did “voice reveals” but mostly it just quickly became the norm for them to have two voices. The one they do for the character, and their normal voice, which they use 90% of the time so they don’t destroy their vocal cords.
There certainly was a trend early on when vtubers were just high pitched “cutsey” girls but thankfully it was properly broken a while ago. It’s such a shame that it tainted the concept for a lot of people, when there’s plenty of men and women now who are just regular content creators that don’t want to show their face.
Their high falsetto voices are like salty broken glass in my eyes. I’ve never been able to watch more than 10 seconds of a “vtuber”.
Plenty of them talk using their normal speaking voice.
