Sony seems to be completely out of touch with the reality. During the time when the console prices have skyrocketed to the point it’s no longer an option for entire segment of the population, they decide that it’s right time to go back to console exclusive games? It also baffles me that there are fully grown men that are actually celebrating the return of console exclusives. What a bizarre tribalism at work here. I think I’m just going to slowly work through my back catalog until some semblance of sanity returns.

Guess I’ll have to limit myself to the 10,000 other games to play on PC, then.

Also, it’s not like most or all of these exclusives won’t eventually be in emulation territory.

PS4 is 13 years old and a tiny fraction of its games are considered “playable” in emulators so far.

Each generation has been exponentially more challenging to emulate than the previous, so don’t hold your breath for reliable PS5 emulation.

Not really. PS4 is easier to emulate than PS3, if you are on x86 PC hardware. The development just didn’t have as much time as PS3 yet, but its not exponentially more challenging than PS3. PS5 is basically a PC, so emulating games wouldn’t be THAT hard. Like with PS4, they don’t need to emulate everything of the CPU (if you are playing on PC).

You’re totally right, it’s just x86 so it’ll be easy. That’s why 13 years later they made so much progress on PS4 emulation.

Really? I’ve observed it being less challenging. People have more experience, the talent pool is larger, the tools are better, and the hardware is closer to PC hardware to begin with.

I don’t get it. If they want to increase PlayStation Plus subscriptions, they should limit the multiplayer games they port to PC. The last time I bought a console for a single player game was Final Fantasy 7 back in 1997.

Well aside, it’s surprising nothing on PS2 tempted you. Several tentpole titles did famously get PC ports, but if you’re more about Kingdom Hearts than GTA, that machine was like $150 by 2004.

They saw how much money they could make being just another multiplatform publisher, and it scared the shit out of them.

      The console war is over.

But this is a retraction of that. Like some last ditch effort to make PlayStation viable as a console. Console makers will eventually have to accept that it will move from purposed to general devices no matter what they do.

They saw this as nothing more than a tease for PC gamers, in the hopes that the taste they’ve gotten will result in those PC gamers buying a console in order to play the sequels.

As a PlayStation user, I think this is crap. I hate how I can’t play PC games and they never plan to come out for PlayStation… so this is equally crappy for PC users.

He is serving his function. Sony is gripping their platform with both hands, after nearly letting it slip away. The future presented by Helldivers 2 and various Spider-Mans is one where Sony’s a relatively large publisher for several important studios. The future where they deny reality and cosplay the 90s console war for another decade is one where they are the biggest fish in a small pond, and that makes more money, somehow.

I’m unclear how that will play out if Microsoft simply declines to release another Xbox.

We’ll see. None of these games ever had day 1 releases on PC. The next mainline God of War and Horizon games aren’t even announced, so things may change by then.

Playstation releases games on PC, gamers say “PS5 doesn’t have any exclusives” and whine about it incessantly for 5 years. Playstation responds by saying “ok we will do some exclusives” and now gamers are whining about that. There’s just no winning.

I think the complaint has more been that the PS5 is lacking for games, period. I just looked it up, there have been 36 SIE games published on the PS5 thus far in what’s been roughly 5.5 years. It took SIE less than half that time to get to the same number published on the PS4.

I never understood consumers begging for exclusives anyway. Someone playing Halo on a PC or PlayStation doesn’t make it any less enjoyable for me to play on my Xbox. People that simp for corporations are weird.

Winning is not being an absolute moron and getting mad that other people can also play the same games as you on other systems…
