Ok, so it was a mistake. So then why is it still on the page instead of replaced with the intended art work?

Whenever a company retracts something by saying it was put there by mistake, it means they were too ashamed to admit they wanted it there in the first place. I’d respect them more if they simply admitted they wanted to make or save more money by doing the unpopular thing. At least that way they’re not insulting anyone’s intelligence.

It could be. But if it was a mistake, what are they going to say? That it was intentional? Companies have a lot of people and management often doesn’t always get a clear idea of who did what and how.

Then that’s the fault of management. They’re supposed to be responsible for their team. That’s why they get paid the big bucks!

They should take responsibility, apologize, and move on. Claiming it was a mistake is childish and insulting.

After feedback from our customer base we would like to state that we are still committed and will continue to stick with hiring human illustrators for artwork associated with the GOG brand, and put in safe guard to catch AI works that might accidentally enter the work flow.

Its not that difficult to communicate to the public. Pretty standard to clearly state how worries customers bring up will be solved if the intention is to not keep doing what customers are accusing them of intentionally doing.

Maybe that new senior dev they’re trying to hire to… “Actively use and promote AI-assisted development tools to increase team efficiency and code quality” will fix it.

GOG was recently taken over, changed their TOS, post a job listing looking for AI developers, and now is caught using AI artwork.

Yup, this one’s rotten too, boys. Time to cook up an alternative.

Also, who mistakenly generates an image? It’s one thing to not have the auto AI summary turned off for search results, but no AI is generating that without a very specific prompt. If you meant to generate that but never meant to share it then I have more questions now. Why bother to generate it if not for final use? If you’re using it as inspiration for your art team, why even have an art team? You should be able to send them the same prompt you sent the AI and get real art back instead. It’s seems like a pretty transparent lie.

Yeah, I’ve been hearing the “AI used for reference only” excuse when these things happen quite a lot lately. Seems like a thinly veiled way to test the waters.

Sounds like they’re experimenting with AI for a variety of things and didn’t realize their customers would be so upset about it. Now that they know their base feels strongly (against) hopefully that will help guide their process. The whole point of offering intimate discord with devs by subscription is that the supporters get to help shape the vision and give direct feedback.

Convenient that it’s only a “mistake” after people start complaining.

The Discord post also didn’t rule out continued use of AI in generating art, as they justified its use in the context of GOG’s limited resources.

They might continue using AI and simply be more selective about the output.
