      You might be thinking about Geocities, it died in 2009. Neocities was inspired by Geocities but is a separate project launched in 2013.

          I watched Escape from New York just a few years ago for the first time (ok its probably 5 years ago). And I had a blast, film really holds up. I don’t know why I didn’t watched it before, given that I’m an 80s kid and watched all the 80s and 90s films, and I am a huge fan (of the first) Metal Gear Solid. For any reader who don’t know why MGS this is relevant: Kojima was inspired by this film when creating the Metal Gear series. The main character even is named Snake.

      As the other comment explained already, you was thinking of Geocities. I actually recently put Neocities to my list of web hosters, in case I want to do something with it. Seems quiet nice and is a homage to Geocities.
