As a result, the emulator currently relies on spatial upscalers such as FSR 1, bilinear, and nearest-neighbor scaling.
Note for any reader who might not know this. FSR 1 is a more traditional upscaler, no Ai involved. And this can be used universally on any game and image without the game to have to support this explicitly. FSR1 is also builtin into the Steam Deck. AMD started using Ai and changed the entire upscaling technology since FSR2, because it could not compete on the visual and performance level of DLSS upscaler from Nvidia.
I have to agree.
I remember saying this way back when DLSS and FSR were first released and though I was excited at the fact my old card would last just that little bit longer with a hit to visuals that this would end up being a vendor locked, crutch that will be detrimental to gaming in the long run.
That long run didn’t take very long to get here and even worse than I thought it would have ever been.
