The Omacom Foundation (Omarchy) contributors listed are:
Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, Stripe CEO Patrick Collison, Dell Technologies Chairman and CEO Michael Dell, Block co-founder Jack Dorsey, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince, Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe, 37signals CEO Jason Fried, and Hansson himself.
Matthew Prince has in the past removed nazis from Cloudflare, maybe it’s worth bringing his attention to DHH’s support for Tommy Robinson and anti-immigrant protests in the UK. The rest of them seem at least sympathetic to, if not part of, the far right.
Great news for open source all around, except for Omarchy. Fuck Omarchy
There’s the Nintendo one also bad
Self-hosted gits in Brazil are gonna be making a comeback baby!
Yeah definitely, Nintendo just hates for people to enjoy Nintendo products on anything other than their own terms
Why fuck Omarchy?
The distro is (reportedly - I’m not touching it) just arch + hyprland + dotfiles scripts, the main dev is the same dev behind hyprland (who’s right-leaning to say the least), and the money comes from right-leaning-to-say-the-least entrepreneurs.
errata: read the reply below
The guy behind Omarchy is not the same as the guy behind Hyprland, but one is a literal neo-Nazi while the other is a Nazi apologist at best.

https://drewdevault.com/blog/Hyprland-toxicity/
They both have insane unhinged rants on the subject(s) on their own blogs as well.
Woa :-O Definitely avoiding such people and their nazty environment/ecosystem… Thanks for info…
Part of those 8 million do go into paying “the Hyprland guy” (Vaxry)'s salary, and he himself hasn’t been very politically correct. DHH also is quite open about choosing “anti-woke” projects (i.e. without a CoC).
Thanks for the correction!
Well gawd damn it… it looked cool until I heard this. I’ll steer clear of it until there is a non-fascist backed option. Thanks for the heads up.
I’m not a user or a fan of omarchy, but I think that description is a little reductive. Omarchy has its own fast cloudflare mirrors for packages and its own package management. Personally I think that’s not a good thing (just use pacman/aur/flatpak), but it’s worth pointing out that there’s more to this distro than the dotfiles, and while it was cosplaying as a distro before, with the release of quattro its getting closer to being an actual distro now.
Crazy to think they just got 8 million dollars. Compared to half a million for flatpak!!! Totally backwards.
It’s a vanity project. You know how Notch bought a Bugatti, this is the software equivalent.
Notch’s Bugatti is far less likely to spontaneously combust (because it was made by professionals, not AI), and if it did, it wouldn’t affect as many people. Omarchy claims to be an easy version of Arch, when in reality, it’s just doing what every beginner would be doing, including all of the accidental security holes, and then adds some more weakpoints through the unchecked shell scripts.
Nazis
BTRFs, which has advanced filesystems features like snapshots, data integrity checks, and scrubbing, is a less performant filesystem for databases than filesystems that don’t have these features, like EXT4, F2FS and XFS. No shit, Sherlock. At least compare it to ZFS or something.
If you are storing files that you care about, use a filesystem with integrity checks. If you require high database performance, it’ll probably be happier using a whole partition, if not just a whole pile of disks, and be allowed to get on with it. If you are driving nails into a wall, do not compare the performance of different screwdrivers for the task. And so on.
Why not link to his official Peertube channel? https://tilvids.com/w/8wMTpekSgUu9iaLc8S5Qc3
If there’s a next time I will
Ive been wondering who would donate such a ridiculous amount of money to disgusting people like DHH and Vaxry. Figures it’s all CEOs of disgusting companies as well. Don’t let friends use fash software. Use Arch itself or CachyOS, not Omarchy. Use Niri + Dank Material Shell or Noctalia, or even Mango. Fuck hyprland.
Summaries with links associated and everything, plus video timestamps! I appreciate the work you put into this post.
Nah, if anything it’s all on Nick. And I think he’s around here.
Kudos to both you and Nick!
