1·6 months agoI personally use Matrix for this. Artyom kinda summarizes issues of all chats pretty well. If you use Yunohost installing Matrix is at least easy. Matrix/Element is good enough and even my non tech wife is able to use it.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why do so many services require email configuration?English
3·6 months agoSame I almost got locked out from my Ghost account because of email 2FA. Luckily you could change the config to override it.
Same annoying was with Mastodon, but luckily as admin you can approve accounts to override the email confirmation.

2·7 months agoNice to hear that it is worked on! I guess since it has working API someone could technically create own desktop app for it :D Encryption is probably not early priority I assume since it is supposed to be lightweight?
My comparison for this app is Trillium notes. In jotty the UI looks better and kanban support is one of the features that I missed in Trillium notes!

4·7 months agoWow this looks amazing! One of the best looking note taking apps. I think my only problem is that I like that I have offline access to my notes and I think this is only webbased? I didn’t read the details in dept but can you sync notes with other note taking apps?

2·11 months agoDoing moderation is something that I would not want to do at the start. At least in the start all items would be created by me. This would be a side project for me and all user submissions would be verified (if ever allowed). This would be more like personal list rather than huge community project. Maybe if this evolved overtime then it could be something else.
Yeah, wiki might be simplest solution for this, but I was wondering if there existed something more visually friendly. IMO wiki (similar to https://consumerrights.wiki/Main_Page) is less “pretty” to AlternativeTo. But using wiki could probably be starting point for this.

1·11 months agoThanks for recommendation. I am technical, but more on backend side rather than front end. I would love to use something that is opensource. This would probably work, but seems like I would need the create a lot of things “from scratch”. This would be a side project so I am looking something that would be simple as possible.

2·11 months agoThanks for sharing! This has same idea that I am have plans! IMO this shows that wiki is bit less user friendly compared to what AlternativeTo has.

I replaced Discord(and Whatsapp) with Matrix/Element as voice chat (and general chat) with my wife. I remember running it with Docker was bit annoying to set up (I was selfhosting beginner when first doing it now it could be easier), but with Yunohost it is one click install (if you are willing with swap operating server).
Nextcloud Talk could work for your needs, but I have not personally used it so hard to recommend it.
