So unless his son was the best applicant / candidate for the job it’s nepotism.

Nepotism doesn’t require that you be unqualified, just that their be a more qualified applicant / candidate who was passed over because of your connections. So unless his son was the best applicant / candidate for the job it’s nepotism.
