I recently went back to fedora workstation (gnome) after using Arch (Manjaro) with kde and hyprland for the last 3 years.

Got tired of things breaking with hyprland and Manjaro every other month. Had a few issues with AUR packages too (I know I’m supposed to carefully read release notes to figure out what breaks, but how many people actually do that?)

With fedora at least, I won’t have to worry about packages breaking and not working together. Gnome isn’t my favorite but I’m sticking to it for a while to give it a fair chance.

Yes. I use vim as much as possible. When I don’t use vim, I use its keybindings in Firefox, IntelliJ, VSCode and even in eMacs (spacemacs with evil mode).

Mine is remapped to Ctrl since I use that way more often.

None. I’ve been windows free for over 3 years. Had to give up some software for alternatives. Switching from Lightroom to Darkroom wasn’t difficult, though it’s not as polished.

Dunno if Autocad is a major dependency for your job, I use freeCAD instead and it works. Of course there will be differences and you’d have to relearn how to do things.

Have fun! Whatever you do, if you run into an issue you can’t solve, stick with it. You’ll learn and become better over time.

I’ve been gaming on Linux for about 3 years now and it’s been great. Had some hiccups here and there but they were solved with some searching.

I second backblaze. Switched to them about 5 years ago when AWS and GCP were charging me $20-30 for storing my backups. The same backups cost $5-7 on backblaze.

Formerly Google domains, now owned by squarespace. It costs $13 a year for a .rocks domain.

PostgreSQL is a goated database. It’s rock solid.

No clue why you’d find it gross. I’ll take it over MySQL, OracleDB or MariaDB any day.

I had issues with the steam flatpak, but installing it directly works. Same thing happened with slack and my browser.

You absolutely don’t need to know what that means, and you don’t have to wait for it either. Those are specific things some users want on one desktop environment/window manager, and not necessary to run Linux.

Yessir! Fzf is pretty much indispensable to me now.

Those projects contribute the bulk of funds for the development of fzf.

It’s normal to credit them and I’ve seen that done on multiple open source projects.

It’s interesting there’s still resistance against systemd in 2025. It’s running just fantastically in many distros. I don’t get the hate against it.

That was just one reason I gave. I personally do not like android, and my past experience with a pixel phone did not go well.

I want a phone that’s usable without having to worry about custom roms and Google locking down side loading of apps in the future. There was enough outrage that they gave up on their recent attempt, but we all know that’s not permanent.

My personal preference would be for a Linux phone that works and does so well. That doesn’t exist yet.

Switching phones isn’t necessarily easy or doable for everyone. I’ve got my device already, I appreciate this new app since it’s usable without me spending more money or changing everything about my mobile device.
