Works amazing on my end and it’s built into most KDE OS spins along with KWrite and Kolour. While I know the name Flameshot, I’ve never actually needed it as Spectacle is solid!

Regardless of whatever distro, definitely keep all your stuff backed up on an external drive. I had to “restart” my install a few times to get the hang of things. Yet I still keep all my info on an Vegacrypt encrypted external just in case to this day.

Holy fuck.1·2 years agoWindows and Apple both capitalize on most folks lack of minimal tech savviness plus being creatures of habit. So much so, Apple gave away laptops to numerous Silicon Valley highschool classes in the mid 2000’s, just to entrench them into the system.
I’ve been using Linux for a few years now and I still randomly think about what took me this long to switch. It’s how an OS should be made. It can simply be installed and used out the gate or it can be tinkered with to make an ideal setup. Not to mention the lack of invasive tracking. Windows is so bad it’s more complete monitoring of the users than tracking.
Regardless, August 2023 to August 2024 will definitely be the year of the Linux desktop! /s

For sure, but online exams for college see VM’s as a cheating option since the base OS isn’t accessible by the exam software to restrict. I’ve seen on going workarounds, but these exam programs always adapt, making more settings changes required for a VM to work on a test. As if a difficult exam wasn’t tough enough. Windows provides the exam software’s the lockdown capabilities they desire, so alt OS options aren’t allowed.
Apparently, if you go through the “privacy” settings in Windows and turn everything off, it still collects more data than KDE with all telemetry turned on 🤯
You may want to dual boot, especially if your classes are online. I’ve seen issue after issue using a Windows VM for online exams. But, for me it’d be worth asking a buddy or using the computer lab to get around an invasive OS as your daily driver.

It is only ~3,000 lines of code, while sudo has ~170,000 lines. doas does 90% of sudo commands and is more secure as well. Mental Outlaw has a great video on the topic.

This could be defined as bloatware, plus proficiency in linux to me means anything can be done via terminal or GUI. The base distro’s have some task which require the terminal, while mint and kubuntu are managed via GUI.

It doesn’t seem like it, RHEL is based on Fedora. Fedora is beta RHEL more or less. But Alma, Rocky and Scientific Linux will all be in trouble as they’re based on RHEL. Or at least that’s what I make of it
Nobara could be a great choice for your setup. It’s a version of Fedora, made by a very well respected Fedora team member, setup with gaming in mind. It comes with many of the drivers you’d have to download using most other distros. Being Fedora based means you can tinker with anything you wanted to change. I recommend the KDE spin, KDE is known as the swiss army knife of environments. It’s super intuitive too. I’m actually in a bit of an emulator phase right now, I have had zero issues using KDE Fedora while figuring it all out!
