The deeper into low level kernel stuff, the less direct compatibility.
FreeBSD didn’t have working nvidia drivers for amd64 in 2006, so, Linux it was.
Most played/enjoyed this year: Shattered Pixel Dungeon and Crimsonland.
Same, but also released this year: Kitsune Tails.
For some convoluted networking things it’s easier for me to have a full “machine” as it were
