Some are DRM free and can be backed up at your leisure. I’m pretty sure that’s up to the developer to implement or not.

It would be neat if steam let you sell a game back, but I’m not sure how to square that with “you have a drm free copy that’s trivial to copy”

I was going to point out how heroic launcher is fine, but that’s not a store.

That’s not really Valve’s fault that all the other storefronts don’t care to support Linux, though.

Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO that doesn’t aggravate me.

• Feels like a real video game. You can dodge and stuff.
• Other players can only help. No “kill stealing”
• Other players are frictionless. They show up, do whatever, leave. No need to make a formal party
• Level cap doesn’t go up. No need to chase stats forever.

You do have to buy the expansions, but the core game is free now.

Windows is pretty bad. Microsoft should be split up. If I had the magic powers, its leadership would be stripped of wealth, barred from holding similar positions for life, and have their faces on some sort of wall of shame. Everyone is allowed to throw trash at them, and they have to pick it up.

I use nano for quick edits. I don’t know more than the basics of vim, and don’t do a lot of editing on the terminal so I haven’t needed to.

Ars is weirdly pro-windows sometimes , in the comments. I don’t read them as much as I used to.

People assume it’s all terminal all the time. I haven’t needed to open the terminal for months. It starts up. With the GUI I open the browser. Maybe steam, too. Do stuff. Shut down.

I don’t think people buying consoles are doing that kind of long term thinking

I like the idea. I don’t want to use facebook or similar, but that’s where stuff like “BuyNothing” is most active.

Unfortunately, I don’t know much about self hosting (beyond what I’ve picked up working in software development) so I don’t see myself running one of these myself. I’d probably use it if it came to my neck of the woods (NYC)

Most developers I’ve looked at would happily just paste the curl|bash thing into the terminal.
