It depends on how old. My Xeons are e-2224G. They’re 14nm coffee lake. They are rated at 71Watts but as I said only use 15w streaming 4k.
They’re $190 on eBay with 16gb ram and 256 GB SSD.
A 16 GB Pi5 is $130 just for the motherboard. You still need storage, case and power supply.
I switched to ECC only for my home server over 10 years ago after a silent ram error corrupted some data on my raid drives. I didn’t realize there was a problem until I went to look at an old photo and it was corrupted.
“8 percent of the DIMMs saw correctable error per year”
And this was from 20 years ago when memory density was much less so the chance of an error was lower.
I got an old Lenovo P330 Xeon with 64 G of ECC ram. I recently checked its power usage for another poster asking the same thing. I was shocked to see it only use 15Watts while streaming 4k hevc.
For server use, ECC is important because it’s going to be on 24/7 for years at a time.
Bitrot happens even when sitting around. Magnetic domains flip. SSD cells leak electrons.
Reading and rewriting with an ECC system is the only way to prevent bit rot. It’s particularly critical for SSDs.
Not really. The first local login to configure it requires a Plex account. And that account times out maybe monthly? It seems every few months when I remote to the Plex server it wants the plex account to login.
The problem with Plex is it isn’t fully hosted. Plex controls user passwords. You can’t use it without logging into their servers.
We have had multiple slots for decades without problems. And you can get threadripper CPU/motherboards that require even more power yet have plenty of slots.
Imo the lack of slots is companies saving money.
From what I’ve read,it’s that the 870 chipset mandates a PCIe 5 slot which means less lanes for more slots.
There are free dynamic DNS services so you don’t need to pay for a static ip. I like noip.com.
If build volume is a limitation, I’ve seen all sorts of snap together plates you could crib from. For example I recently printed this pacman boardgame. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5396911
The interlocks are completely hidden by the overhangs of the other plates. Once snapped together, you can’t see that it is made of separate parts.
Disk encryption is Luks not bcrypt and Luks timeouts are configurable.
I think he’s referring to the 10 second pause between attempts. It’s security theatre because you can replace the bootloader with one that doesn’t pause.
There are plenty of mods that change the game to be completely unrecognizable as a mod for Minecraft both in how they play and how they look.
Show me one. I posted several pictures above. Show me a Minecraft mod that is unrecognizable as Minecraft.
if you think Roblox is like Nintendo.
You have a platform confused with a game.
Here’s another screen shot of a roblox game:
Minecraft must have a Sonic port that doesn’t look like Minecraft. Right??? Because there is Sonic in Minecraft but it still looks like Minecraft. Show me one that doesn’t look like Minecraft.
I asked if you play anything other than Minecraft. Because according to you Minecraft can be any game.
Yeah, I’m conflicted too. It’s child labor but we’re stuck in capitalism. Lego profits off of children. Minecraft profits off of children. I’m sure there are independent games on Steam written by teenagers that Steam is taking their 30% cut from.
I’ve never seen a Minecraft mod that didn’t look like Minecraft. There are all sorts of rendering mods, game play changes, but its still Minecraft.
Do you really not understand the difference between Nintendo and Minecraft? You’ve never played any game other than Minecraft ever because you can mod Minecraft?
come on.
A platform isn’t a game. Minecraft is one game. Steam hosts many games. Nintendo hosts many games. There are Minecraft clones as games on the Roblox platform.
Recommending Minecraft as a substitute for Roblox is the same as recommending Minecraft as a replacement for Nintendo.
MCreator is amazing but it still Minecraft. You can create your own items that are crafted with your own recipe or paint a mob to look like soemthing else. Again anyone suggesting Minecraft doesn’t understand that Roblox isn’t a Minecraft clone. It makes no sense to compare a single game to a platform. “Don’t play Nintendo, play Minecraft.” ???
It’s like suggesting that kids shouldn’t play Steam games because there’s Minecraft and they can make their own modded Minecraft.
Here are some Roblox Games:
So there’s a Blender like CAD environment tied to a scripting language for those open source Minecraft clones that let you pick and place assets from a menu and then add code?
Every Roblox install installs this development tool. It’s ridiculous to compare it to the java programming needed to make a Minecraft mod.
And when you are done you hit “publish” and it uploads it to their servers ready for everyone to play.
If there’s no voice channels, then why reinvent IRC?
