I regret to inform everyone that my copy of QBittorrent escaped its sandbox last night and downloaded a whole bunch of content owned by major corporations, and then my copy of Jellyfin broke containment and added those unfortunately-downloaded media files to its various libraries. I'm conducting an internal investigation to figure out how this happened, which will involve consuming these media files until the answers become apparent.     end-users are rarely prosecuted or sued over piracy

    That wasn’t always true. The RIAA sued many people over music downloads (via bittorent since they’re technically hosting at the same time as downloading). They only stopped once the major studios figured out it would cost less to force the ISPs to do it for them.

      I remember a time when the gaming community’s darling, CDPR, sent lawyers to people’s homes, demanding they pay because they pirated The Witcher 2.

      I don’t know how times have changes, but it definitely happened depending on when and where you lived.
