Has anyone tried to use kdrive form infomaniak as clone of directory where immich stores photos? Does it make any sense? I think it is one of the cheapest options right now for backup.
I backup my whole NAS to AWS S3 glacier deep storage. I use rclone to encrypt it client side and perform incremental syncs. It is slow and costs extra to pull the data out, but I pay roughly $2/mo for all of my data to live there
I had Infomaniak for a while, and tried the kdrive, as like you, it was the cheapest cloud drive storage. However I gave up with Infomaniak as in the end they felt a bit, er, fussy in the way they ran it all. It just didn’t fill me with confidence.
For me, for all archiving, the simplest solution has always been Backblaze Personal backup. Yes its an extra cost per month, but it will also backup all of your main computer, and any external drives. You can add an encryption key too. The only downside is it being a US company.
I have a 5TB external USB that dupes all my docker stuff as well from my server to my Mac, so it’s an all-in-one backup solution for me.
For backups, see if there’s support in rclone. You can set up encryption in rclone (crypt remote) as an overlay to other storage locations.
Once you encrypt your own backups, the privacy of the cloud storage provider doesn’t matter much. The main things to consider are price, storage capacity, and reliability.
i don’t believe in Switzerland. proton had already milked the"swiss privacy"buzzword enough times now.
Hmm, those people are using google photos right now, so I wont be worse ;) I wanted to make as simple solution as possible.
why not self host?
