Hi Selfhosting community.
Was looking for PaperCut alternatives that are self-hostable and preferably open-source. I came across this software: SavaPage. It looks really great, loads of features that ticks many of the boxes I need it for. I want to implement this at our offices. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with this, and if you might be willing to share said experience?
TIA.

I don’t have any familiarity with using this kind of software, but I looked through the git repo of SavaPage. It looks like it has been actively developed for the past few years, which is a great sign, but it looks like almost all commits are done by one user. The issue tracker is also a little meager, with just one open issue, potentially pointing to a very small user base. Adoption heavily depends on as long as that one person keeps maintaining the project.
Printing doesn’t change very often. The main protocols (like PostScript, PCL, and IPP) haven’t had any major changes in a very long time. Software like SavaPage probably mostly “just works” and doesn’t need a huge amount of maintenance or have a huge number of issues.
That is a very valid point, thank you. I saw that too. I just don’t want to go PaperCut just yet, because I honestly don’t feel it is worth the cost. I would rather have us spend the money on proper hardware for our hosting capabilities.
Thank you for your response.
