Every few years, I try installing Actual Budget, and have my wife compare it to how she uses YNAB, just to see if we can finally make the switch to fully self-hosted. Plus YNAB has become obsessed with new features and new customers while ignoring many of the issues that still haunt those with legacy knowledge of the platform. All while continuing to raise the price.

The more time that I’ve spent talking to c-level suite occupants, the more that I’ve realized that they’re the grown up version of that kid in high school who attended the same Cutco Knives presentation as you, and then immediately signed up because their parents were paying for the knives so that they’d “have a job.”

This is how those morons think that they started at the bottom. They sat in the same presentation as the rest of us poors, but were rich enough to afford the scam. By the time they’ve inherited the same cash cow that their parents live off of, they’ve finished convincing themselves that they earned the reigns because of the years they spent looking busy while actually financially fucking over their parents by making them throw money at scam after scam.

Yeah, I thought I was in one of the programming communities (we call them communities vs subreddits, which is why they’re prepended with “c/” instead of “r/”), which is why I was being so anal about creators and their values/meticulousness.

Obviously, for a community that’s often full of people posting “look what I found,” or “here’s my advice,” I was proposing far too much rigor that would absolutely kill the mood here.

I’d assumed, obviously incorrectly and with the wrong context, that you were expressing anti-AI views, so I was trying to communicate how not fully standardizing (labeling) the data (posts) would affect you from your, once again, improperly assumed perspective.

Yes, but no. [Not AI] tags would be just as much for your benefit as it would be for the poster’s. Until they become official tags in a mandatory field to post, someone who cuts corners is going to skip reading the rules and post without a tag. Or even if the onus were only on the “AI” posters, then they’ll miss or forget to check the box, select the tag, etc.

Therefore, you’ll want to be able to sort by [Not AI], and then safely assume that anything else probably isn’t worth your time. Additionally, someone who uses AI and then intentionally abuses the [Not AI] tag could be assumed to have lied about anything else in their project, and should not be considered a trustworthy creator or worthwhile poster.

I absolutely love jellyfin and frequently take advantage of its features. But the client absolutely suck butt. When I can hardly get my mom to remember which app on her TV lets her watch what, I can’t also have her fucking around with play buttons that don’t do what they say, a “continue watching” list that’s often haunted by episodes that have been marked as watched, or inscrutable menu icons mashed into the top-right corner of a media browser.

And don’t get me started on getting people logged in on the client.
